A new community garden is coming to Vic West and we’d love you to be part of it. Looking for people to form the “Garden Planning Team” to take this project from concept to celebratory completion.

Are you looking for a garden plot? Do you have time, energy, skills or interest to share? Dreamers, planners, artists, builders, gardeners, students and many more are all needed.

Come visit the Food Security Collective’s display at Vic West Fest in Banfield Park on Saturday, May 14 between 11am and 3pm for more information. Or see details below.

Vic West Park Community Garden
A new community garden is coming to Vic West and you’re invited to participate in bringing the garden into being. The City of Victoria has committed to redeveloping Vic West Park and has designated a section of the Park for a large community garden.
The Vic West Food Security Collective (VWFSC) has been invited work with interested parties through the various stages of development. The VWFSC was established as a Vision Project of the Vic West Community Association in 2003. Since then, VWFSC has developed and and currently maintains about 15 gardens and projects in our neighbourhood including Rayn or Shine Community Garden, Banfield Commons, Banfield Park Community Orchard, Evans Orchard, and Community Potluck Dinners.
The first step in developing the Vic West Park Community Garden project is to build a “Garden Planning Team” who will, together with community, bring the garden from concept to celebratory completion. Before we turn the earth, we need to gather neighbourhood ideas for the space, design the garden, liaise with the City and other agencies and much more. We are looking for gardeners, planners, designers, carpenters, artists, organizers, and others.  The Garden Planning Team needs people who:
– carry the history of the land and know about indigenous plants
– can listen and respond to the wishes of the neighbourhood
– can gather information, attend meetings, liaise with agencies
– are interested in having a plot in this new garden
– are visionaries, dreamers, planners and doers
– want to build community through growing food and sharing garden space
– are educators and program facilitators, and many more

It will take a community to build this project and we’d love it if you’d join us now by becoming a member of the Garden Planning Team. Everyone is welcome to contribute to bringing this new project into fruition. Contact us at
